On April 21, a judge issued another arrest warrant for the team's public relations director. The Colombian coach is still optimistic, however.''As a minimum we have to get to the second round. After that, a ton of other goals will open up,'' Suarez said. ''This is what we want the people to understand.''Ecuador will face host Germany, Poland and Costa Rica in the first round in Group A, and Ecuadorean soccer federation president Luis Chiriboga hopes the team can avoid getting distracted by the scandal.''We ask the players for introspection and for total concentration to obtain results,'' Chiriboga said.Suarez has only publicly mentioned one name so far as a definite for his World Cup roster: Agustin Delgado.Known as ''Tin,'' the 32-year-old striker is the team's anchor. He scored his biggest goal in Ecuador's first ever win over Brazil - 1-0 in Quito on March 27, 2001.Former Ecuador coach Carlos Sevilla also thinks the team can get to the second round.Sevilla called defender Ivan Hurtado ''an icon in a defensive block for his experience and technical abilities,'' and midfielder Edison Mendez, who scored against Croatia at the last World Cup, the ''axis'' of the squad.Missing from Ecuador's roster is striker Franklin Salas, out of action with a knee injury. And striker Ivan Kaviedes is questionable. Kaviedes' performance has been erratic in recent months, including on his current team, Argentinos Juniors .Ecuador's progress in soccer is owed mostly to 10 years of Colombian coaching. In 1996, coach Francisco Maturana headed the team, followed by Hernan Dario Gomez, who brought Ecuador to its first World Cup in South Korea and Japan. In tune with that Colombian style, Ecuador's game is marked by frequent passing, a 4-4-2 formation, and a line of midfielders that mixes talent, strength and speed, backed up by swift attacking defenders.Back again from Ecuador's first World Cup appearance are Hurtado, Delgado, Ulises De la Cruz and Edwin Tenorio.Suarez also built up talent on the team with goalkeeper Cristian Mora, defenders Neicer Reasco, Paul Ambrossi, Jorge Guagua and midfielder Antonio Valencia.''The fundamental of this squad is its collectivity - a very compact group,'' Suarez said. But critics note Ecuador's poor performance, particularly by its strikers, in matches leading up to the World Cup: five losses and one win so far.

Federico Insua scored a pair of goals and Rodrigo Palacio and Guillermo Barros Schelotto added one each to pace Boca Juniors over Estudiantes 4-0 Sunday and to the brink of a second consecutive Argentine title.
The victory gave Boca 34 points, four more than Lanus with two games remaining. Boca could earn another three points if the Argentine disciplinary tribunal awards it the three points from last week's game against Velez Sarsfield. The match was suspended in the 88th minute because of fan disturbances with Boca leading 3-2. Lanus kept pace by beating Arsenal 3-0.
River Plate, which drw 3-3 with Gimnasia La Plata, was six points behind Boca, followed by Newell's, which drew 1-1 with Argentinos Juniors.

Daniel Passarella’s River Plate only managed to nab a solitary point at home, trundling to a 2-2 draw with Argentinos Juniors, as they watch local archrivals Boca Juniors reach for the championship repeat.
Leading 2-1 late Nicolas Pareja converted a free kick that tied the game and stunned the home crowd.
With three games left in the Clausura ’06 season, River Plate trails Boca by 4 points; meanwhile Argentinos is 15th with 18 points.

What can I say? 7 out of 7 at home for River Plate, and always by 2 or more (covering the handicap assigned to them whether it´s -1.5 or -1.75). 19 goals scored in 7 home games vs. 4 conceded can hardly be opposed. On the other hand, Argentinos Juniors spreads have 1-3-4 as their away form scoring 11 and conceding 17. I cannot name any for obvious reasons, but clubs both in England's Premiership and elsewhere in Europe have been looking at him for some time now.
"In the very near future we will have to sit down together and look at the offers we have on the table before deciding what his next move will be. Instituto won for the first time on the weekend when they beat Lanus 2-1 and consigned winless Racing to the last position in the 20-team first division. Simeone made his debut as coach, having hung up his boots a week earlier, in Racing's 2-0 home defeat by arch-rivals Independiente in the Avellaneda derby. Racing have one point to Instituto's four after six matches - one third into the championship. Independiente's 17-year-old striker Sergio Aguero, a team mate of Barcelona's Lionel Messi in the Argentina side that won the World Youth Cup last year, scored two goals in three minutes early in the second half. Angry Racing supporters hurled missiles onto the pitch at the end but Simeone found time to praise Aguero, from whom media and fans are demanding a place in Argentina's World Cup squad. "Aguero showed that he could easily make the move into European football," Simeone told reporters. Modest Tiro Federal also have four points after their 3-3 draw with Velez Sarsfield allowed River Plate to open a one-point lead following their 3-1 home win against Arsenal. Tiro Federal refused to lie down and die against more illustrious opposition and equalised three times in an end-to-end game in which their prolific striker Javier Campora scored twice to take his tally for the club to 17 in 25 games. Velez, who are second on 12 points with Colon de Santa Fe, host River in midweek. A brace of goals by striker Ernesto Farias helped River to victory over Arsenal, who had defender Mauricio Almada sent off on 50 minutes. Boca Juniors, holders of the league title after winning the Apertura championship in December, scraped a 2-1 win over Argentinos Juniors to climb to seventh on 10 points. San Lorenzo' s goalless draw at home against Rosario Central was marred by three dismissals. Central's former San Lorenzo midfielder Eduardo Coudet was given his marching orders on 50 minutes and the home side's Matias Veron and Jonathan Bottinelli were dismissed in a stormy last five minutes. Central's 77-year-old coach Angel Zof announced after the game that he was quitting although he would be in charge for the last time in their midweek match against Argentinos Juniors. Central are fourth from bottom with five points. "One day you've got to quit," Zof said. "And that day's arrived, I've been coaching for more than 40 years."

Gimnasia-Jujuy continued their excellent campaign with a 3-1 win over Argentinos Juniors, Israel Damonte, Franco Sosa, from a penalty, and Matias Oyola scoring the goals.
At the other end of the table, Racing Club stayed bottom when they were beaten 1-0 at Instituto.
