ENGLAND international Owen Hargreaves is among the players being linked with a summer move to West Ham. The Hammers have money to spend after a successful season and manager Alan Pardew is determined to add at least one midfield player to his squad.Bayern Munich could be tempted to release 25-year-old Hargreaves, who is currently training with England's World Cup squad. Several other midfielders are being linked with West Ham, including Sunderland's Argen-tinian Julio Arca and Modeste M'Bami of Paris St Germain.Arca was signed from Argentinos Juniors for £3.5million six years ago but Sunderland may now decide to let him go after being relegated from the Premiership. Cameroon international M'Bami, 23, who almost moved to Wolves three years ago, made 34 appearances for PSG last season. Pardew could renew his interest in Tottenham's Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Kelly, 22, after having an approach rejected in January. There could also be several departures from Upton Park in the summer with Norwich showing an interest in West Ham's Elliott Ward and Clive Clarke. Meanwhile, Wally Downes, coach of Premiership new boys Reading, has turned down the chance of joining West Ham's coaching staff.

Liga Deportiva Universitaria players dominate the provisional 23-man squad named by Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez for the World Cup finals.
The leading side in Ecuador's domestic league provide seven players while Suarez has also included five foreign-based stars, including Aston Villa full-back Ulises de la Cruz.
Ivan Kaviedes, who has struggled to hold down a first-team place at Argentinos Juniors this season, is nevertheless selected.
The striker made his last appearance for Ecuador in their 5-2 win over Paraguay in World Cup qualifying in March, 2005.
Eight of the players named by Suarez - Ivan Hurtado, De la Cruz, Giovanny Espinoza, Edwin Tenorio, Marlon Ayovi, Carlos Tenorio, Kaviedes and Agustin Delgado - were part of the squad for the 2002 World Cup, in which Ecuador were knocked out in the group stages.
Ecuador, who will face Costa Rica, Poland and hosts Germany in Group A, are the first South American nation to announce their squad for the showpiece.

Boca Juniors capped its Argentine Apertura championship by defeating Olimpo Bahia Blanca 2-0 in the last round on Sunday at Bombonera stadium.Matias Silvestre scored off a header in the 14th minute and Rodrigo Palacio made it 2-0 in the 59th for a seventh straight win for Boca, which won the tournament last week.It was Boca's fourth cup in less than a year, after the South American Recopa and Copa Sudamericana, and the Clausura championship.Boca ended with 43 points, followed by Lanus with 35, River Plate with 34, Gimnasia Jujuy on 33, and Gimnasia La Plata at 32.River Plate defeated host Quilmes 3-1 in a match which was suspended in the 67th minute because of fan violence.Boca, Gimnasia La Plata, River, Banfield and Velez will play in the 2007 Copa Libertadores. The same teams plus Lanus and San Lorenzo will strive to wrest the Sudamericana from defending champion Boca.Instituto and Tiro Federal were relegated to second division.Argentinos Juniors and Olimpo will play with two teams from second division, and the two winners of the home-and-away series will play in the first division next season.

Troubled striker Iván Kaviedes looks to have been given another chance by Ecuador, manager Luis Suárez named the Argentinos Juniors forward in his 23-man squad for the FIFA World Cup finals this summer.
Kaviedes, who has been a bit of a team-hopper in his career in Europe and in South America, has a reputation for being a disciplinary problem wherever he plays, but Suárez considers him a valuable member of the squad.
The Ecuadorean defense will not be short on experience with long-time national team players Iván Hurtado and Giovanny Espinoza being named and will likely be in the starting XI come 9 June when Ecuador open Group A play against Poland. Aston Villa fullback Ulises de la Cruz is also likely to be a starter.
The key player in the squad could be young playmaker Edison Méndez. It is through him that all attacks could be created, hopefully setting up primary striker Agustín Delgado.

The scandal involving Ecuador's national team isn't going to keep coach Luis Fernando Suarez from thinking his team can reach the second round at this year's World Cup.Four years after finishing second only to Argentina in South America's tough World Cup qualifying group, Ecuador was third this time behind the second-place Argentines and five-time World Cup champion Brazil.Still, the team was hurt off the field by an alleged immigrant trafficking scandal.Team coordinator Vinicio Luna was arrested in March and team doctor Patricio Maldonado was detained on April 10 for allegedly seeking US visas for at least two people not connected to the squad. On April 21, a judge issued another arrest warrant for the team's public relations director.The Colombian coach is still optimistic, however.''As a minimum we have to get to the second round. After that, a ton of other goals will open up,'' Suarez said. ''This is what we want the people to understand.''Ecuador will face host Germany, Poland and Costa Rica in the first round in Group A, and Ecuadorean soccer federation president Luis Chiriboga hopes the team can avoid getting distracted by the scandal.''We ask the players for introspection and for total concentration to obtain results,'' Chiriboga said.Suarez has only publicly mentioned one name so far as a definite for his World Cup roster: Agustin Delgado.Known as ''Tin,'' the 32-year-old striker is the team's anchor. Federico Insua scored a pair of goals and Rodrigo Palacio and Guillermo Barros Schelotto added one each to pace Boca Juniors over Estudiantes 4-0 Sunday and to the brink of a second consecutive Argentine title.
The victory gave Boca 34 points, four more than Lanus with two games remaining. Boca could earn another three points if the Argentine disciplinary tribunal awards it the three points from last week's game against Velez Sarsfield. The match was suspended in the 88th minute because of fan disturbances with Boca leading 3-2. Lanus kept pace by beating Arsenal 3-0.
River Plate, which drw 3-3 with Gimnasia La Plata, was six points behind Boca, followed by Newell's, which drew 1-1 with Argentinos Juniors.

Daniel Passarella’s River Plate only managed to nab a solitary point at home, trundling to a 2-2 draw with Argentinos Juniors, as they watch local archrivals Boca Juniors reach for the championship repeat.
Leading 2-1 late Nicolas Pareja converted a free kick that tied the game and stunned the home crowd.
With three games left in the Clausura ’06 season, River Plate trails Boca by 4 points; meanwhile Argentinos is 15th with 18 points.

What can I say? 7 out of 7 at home for River Plate, and always by 2 or more (covering the handicap assigned to them whether it´s -1.5 or -1.75). 19 goals scored in 7 home games vs. 4 conceded can hardly be opposed.On the other hand, Argentinos Juniors spreads have 1-3-4 as their away form scoring 11 and conceding 17. They maybe doing well at home, having won the last couple of games, but on the road they´re still hopeless, as their only win was over the bottom team, Instituto.I have no other option than to support the home team once again. They have yet to fail me at home, and I took them 2 or 3 times so far on handicaps equal or greater than 1.5 (Talk about consistency)I will support River Plate again to win by more than a goal a margin.

Julio Arca is set to leave Sunderland at the end of this season - according to his agent, Stefan Schwarz.
Schwarz, who played for Sunderland between 1999 and 2003, claimed to the Sunday Sun today that a host of clubs in England and around Europe were targetting the Argentinian midfielder.
Arca joined us for £3.5m from Argentinos Juniors in July 2000, but his future has been the subject of speculation for several years, and it looks as if our dismal season will be used as a cue for his exit.
Schwarz said today: "I think there will be a few options for Julio Arca this summer - there has been lots of speculation about his future and, yes, there are a lot of clubs interested. I cannot name any for obvious reasons, but clubs both in England's Premiership and elsewhere in Europe have been looking at him for some time now.
"In the very near future we will have to sit down together and look at the offers we have on the table before deciding what his next move will be. We will have to listen carefully to what everybody has to say.
"But perhaps now the time has come where another season in the Championship might not be the best thing for his future. Until then, Julio just wants to get fit and try and make sure Sunderland finish the season with as many points as possible."

Ecuador's soccer team left for Los Angeles on Saturday night, and will travel on to Japan on Sunday ahead of a friendly match at the Oita Spopark Stadium with the Japanese national team, local media reported.
The 17 players shortlisted for the match, which is part of the warm up for Germany World Cup beginning in June, will travel in two groups: one from the coastal city of Guayaquil and the other from the capital Quito. The Japanese Football Federation, who is organizing the match, is paying all Ecuador's costs.
Luis Fernando Suarez, the Ecuador national team's Colombian manager, will not be able to count on some of the main players for the Thursday match: defenders Nycer Reascos and Paul Ambrossi, winger Edison Mendes and striker Agustin Delgado are all injured, while forward Jaime Kavides did not receive permission from his team Argentinos Juniors.
The team is going to Japan under a cloud: last week Vinicio Luna, the team's administrator, was arrested for alleged people smuggling, and resigned his post from jail. Luna, who had held the post for eight years, is under investigation for trying to obtain visas to the United States for two people who are not part of the team, and attempting to pass them off as a player and a manager.
This year is the second time Ecuador has qualified for the World Cup.

Debutant Racing Club coach Diego Simeone surveyed the Argentine Clausura championship standings from the bottom rung as he prepared for his side's match at modest Olimpo. Instituto won for the first time on the weekend when they beat Lanus 2-1 and consigned winless Racing to the last position in the 20-team first division. Simeone made his debut as coach, having hung up his boots a week earlier, in Racing's 2-0 home defeat by arch-rivals Independiente in the Avellaneda derby. Racing have one point to Instituto's four after six matches - one third into the championship. Independiente's 17-year-old striker Sergio Aguero, a team mate of Barcelona's Lionel Messi in the Argentina side that won the World Youth Cup last year, scored two goals in three minutes early in the second half. Angry Racing supporters hurled missiles onto the pitch at the end but Simeone found time to praise Aguero, from whom media and fans are demanding a place in Argentina's World Cup squad. Gimnasia-Jujuy continued their excellent campaign with a 3-1 win over Argentinos Juniors, Israel Damonte, Franco Sosa, from a penalty, and Matias Oyola scoring the goals.
At the other end of the table, Racing Club stayed bottom when they were beaten 1-0 at Instituto. Racing have only three points from eleven games and have yet to win a game.
Rosario Central picked up their first win under new coach Leonardo Astrada when they beat Tiro Federal 3-0. Goals from defenders Gabriel Loeschbor and German Rivarola put Central 2-0 up and striker Pablo Vitti added the third.

Boca Juniors halted a two-game winless streak Sunday, getting goals from Marcelo Delgado and Juan Krupoviesa to win 2-1 at Argentinos Juniors in the sixth round of the Argentine Clausura championship.
Krupoviesa put Boca ahead for a second time in 58th, after Delgado put it ahead 1-0 in the 35th. The initial lead was short-lived as Franco Niell , which took over the league lead Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Arsenal.equalized in the 39th. The victory gave Boca 10 points, moving it within three points of archrival River Plate
Ernesto Farias scored twice and Leonardo Talamonti added another to lead River over Arsenal.
River Plate leads with 13 points, replacing a trio of sides atop the table. Velez Sarsfield fell to second with 12 points after being unable to hold a one-goal lead three times and drawing 3-3 at Tiro Federal.
Colon was held to a goalless draw with Newell's on Friday and dropped to third, also with 12 points but fewer goals than Velez, followed by Estudiantes, which was beaten 1-0 at Quilmes on Saturday.
Velez led 3-2 in the 68th on Emanuel Centurion's second goal of the game, but gave away the advantage with Walter Alcaraz's own-goal two minutes later.
Marcelo Bustamante opened the scoring for Velez in the sixth minute. Javier Campora equalized in the 15th, but Velez retook the lead in the 43rd on Centurion's first. Campora equalized again in the 54th.
Also on Saturday, Sergio Aguero scored twice in two minutes and Independiente beat crosstown rival and host Racing 2-0.
Aguero, 17, scored in the 55th and 57th minutes of an otherwise lackluster match.
In other games on Saturday it was: Gimnasia La Plata 3, Olimpo 1 and Banfield 2, Gimnasia Jujuy 1. On Sunday it was Instituto 2, Lanus 1, and San Lorenzo 0, Rosario Central 0.
